Chapter 9: The Bizarre News

As the clock ticks to 7:00 pm, both Lydia and Angela finally finishes their cooking as they serve it on the dining table after cleaning the table up.

Lydia washes her hands with cold and running water from the pipe as she turns the pipe knob to the left.

“Angela, I’ll help you with plates while you can go and fetch them up for dinner.” says Lydia kindly wiping her hands clean and dries it with a clean cloth hanging at the side of the refrigerator.

“Oh, okay then. I’ll go and fetch them up now…Have you seen my kids? I didn’t see them anywhere.” says Angela as she dries the wet plate with a clean cloth and settles it down with the rest of the plates in the red square basket.

“Hmmm…I think, all of them are in their own room. Maybe you should check there first.” suggest Lydia as she begins to settle the plates all around the table neatly according to the seats.

“Yeah, I’ll do that. Thanks again for helping me out with the cooking.” replies Angela chuckling as she walks out from the kitchen and climbs up the stairs as few of the stairs creeks from below.

Reaching up to the second floor, Angela walks to the nearest door and knocks on it. Opening it with another creek, she walks half in and looks around the room.

Seeing two figures on the bed, she walks up a little more closer trying to see their faces.

“Hey, wake up you two. It’s time for dinner, hurry downstairs if you don’t want your food to be eaten now.” says Angela with her gentle and soft voice.

Zack only nods with his eyes still close as he sits up from his sleep position. Rubbing his eyes and blinking a few times. He then gets up from the bed lazily as he tries to wake up Airin from her sleep by calling her name and shaking her up.

Seeing that, Angela walks out from the room and goes into another one.

Knocking on the door first, she then opens it as the door creeks.

“Zu, it’s time for dinner. Go and head downstairs.” says Angela gently with her soft voice.

The man only makes an ‘mmm’ sound, as he lazily sits up and looks down at the mattress for a moment.

Angela only nods and walks out from the room as she closes the door from behind.

She then climb downstairs as the stairs creeks after it was step.

“Airin, hey wake up sleepy head. It’s time for dinner, come on. Get up lazy bone!” says Zack as he begins to tickle Airin’s ticklish spots to wake her up from her heavy sleep.

“No!” plead Airin as she giggles and laugh nonstop.

“Well now princess, come on. It’s time for dinner~!” Zack repeats himself again as he helps Airin gets up and gently brushes her long messy hair with his hand.

“Fine…” whines Airin admitting her defeat as she stands up from the bed and walk through to the wardrobe.

Seeing where she is going, Zack quickly turn her shoulders to the left to avoid making her bump onto the hard wood wardrobe. ‘Seriously, this kid.’ he thought as he helps her up with the walking.

Both of them hurry downstairs as Airin’s stomach growls more loudly than ever.

Stepping into the kitchen, she sees the dining table is almost with people and food itself.

‘Wow, what a big family I have here…Yey! I always wanted a big family, now I have them!’ thought Airin smiling as her uncle, Harry invites her to seat down with an open hand.

Airin smiles and nod as an answer. She then pulls the chair next to her father and sits down on it as it creeks.

Seeing Airin have chosen her place to seat, Zack takes the empty seat next to his future father-in-law and sits next to him.

“Ah, is everyone here?” laughs Harry trying to make a joke and conversation.

“Hmm…Hey, where’s Zu?” ask Michael as he sips some of the red color liquid.

“Yeah, I’m here!” replies Zurl as he waves his hands side to side while putting a big grin on his face.

“Ha! There, the boy is already here! Let’s start eating!” shouts Lydia happily as she sips on her cold drink.

All of them laugh with joy and happiness as they feast together happily.

After finishing the meal, Zack and Zurl steps out from the kitchen and turns on the big black screen television that is stuck to the wall.

Airin quickly drinks down her drink and refills it as she takes it with her to the room where her brothers at.

As she walks in, she could hear her favorite cartoon theme song.

“Are you ready kids?

AYE AYE CAPTAIN!

I can’t hear you~

AYE AYE CAPTAIN!

Ohh…

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?”

She screams and jumps out to the room.

“SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS!” scream Airin with happiness as she runs to the nearest couch and quickly sits on it.

Her eyes grow bigger, her smile grow wider as she sees her favorite idol jumping up and down on the TV screen.

Zurl laughs as he hears Airin screaming while not bothering to see it for himself.

Zack only smiles and pats her head gently as they both continue to watch the channel.

As the shows start, it shows the title.

“Shanghaied”

“WOHOO NEW EPISODE!” screams both Zurl and Airin happily making Zack blink and smiles.

The three of them watch the episode as they laugh when something nonsense happen to both SpongeBob and Patrick.

“AWOOO!” shouts the Dutchman as he holds up his ghostly sword.

“TAAAAAA!” replies SpongeBob as his eyes grow bigger.

“Lilililiiii!” shouts Patrick as he stirs up the ship.

Airin makes the same sound as SpongeBob meanwhile her brother replies to her what had Patrick said in the TV.

Zack laughs with the others as they both continue to watch the show.

Walking in, Michael takes the normal seat where he always sits. He takes out his cigarette and lights it up with a lighter as he settles it down on the small coffee table that is right against the wall beside him.

He takes a long drag and puffs out the smoke smoothly looking at the TV, he then smiles and continues to smoke.

Eating her favorite snacks, Airin lick the content clean and then finally eats the delicious biscuits.

“Rin, can you give me some?” Ask Zack as he holds out his hand while looking at the TV screen.

“Mm” only replies Airin, as she takes out one piece of the Oreo cookie and puts it on her brother’s palm.

“Mm, thanks.” thank Zack as he begin to munch on the cookie with a crunch.

Airin only nod blankly as she takes out another cookie and eats it slowly, enjoying the delicious taste of the Vanilla flavor.

As the clock struck at 7:30 pm, the show ends with the ending theme song as Airin face frowns.

“NO! My SpongeBob! It can’t end now!” she grunts and whine.

“Alright, now it’s my turn to watch. The TV remote please, my good man.” replies Michael with a grin on his face.

Zack takes the TV remote after asking from Airin and hands it to his father as he takes it.

Michael smiles and keys in the channel number by pressing the button on the remote.

103, he presses it and in a blink of an eye the channel from Kids zone is change to the News channel.

‘Urgh, I hate news.’ thought Airin quietly as she just sits there and continue to watch.

In the TV screen, a woman with a medium black curly hair wearing a dark blue dress appears and reads the news as she focuses staring at the camera.

“Good evening, I’m Rose Henry bringing you the latest news from the NCW. Today, happening in New England was a devastating for the pupils who lived there. It seems that a mysterious illness has affected the area bringing death to thousands of people. The illness is still unknown to but the scientists are making a move to find the cure for the horrible disease. It was said that—…”

The woman stops for a moment as she shifts her dark blue eyes to the corner of the screen. Nodding lightly for a second and turns back to her regular position as she opens her lips to talk once more.

“This just in folks, another terrible incident just reported in Downtown Brattleboro, Vermont. To what it seems, an explosion was caught while our crew members were passing by.”

A video then pops out of the blue in the TV as it shows the destruction that just made.

The car is now black as it is now upside down from the explosion as the fire burns away the car to it destructive form.

“Wow…This news is getting stranger by the minute I hear it. What do you think, Rin?” says Zurl as he crunches on the Oreo cookie.

“Hmm…Well…I think…It is just a normal usual thing to see in today’s life.” replies Airin plainly as she scratches her head and sighs softly under her breath.

“Yeah, she’s got a point about that.” says Zack nodding as he cracks his fingers.

“Hehehe, of course I am right. There is nothing unusual ever happen to this world and we all know that fact.” replies Airin again as she giggles and takes a bite on the last cookie in the pack.

“NO! My Oreo is gone!” she whines and pouts as she stands up from her seat and walks to the dust bin as she throw the empty pack away.

Walking back to her seat, she sits on the couch as she holds onto Zurl’s muscular arm.

Zurl only blink and turn his head back to the TV screen, trying to hear the latest news.

“Now reporting live from New England, Jane?”

Waiting, the images then change as another woman appears to be wearing a pink shirt and a pair of black jeans while holding a microphone on her right hand.

“Hello, I’m Jane Rand reporting live in New England. As you can see, a sudden explosion had happened minutes ago as we drove by. The residents were surprise from the unexpected incident. Some of them got minor injuries during the explosion. I think the ambulance is on its way now folks, so don’t worry.”

The reporter then gives a sincere smile to the camera.

The sound of the ambulance siren then surrounds the street as the paramedics come out from the vehicle and quickly treat the injured. Then, the firefighter truck arrives as the fire fighters come out from their vehicle and start to extinguish the fire before it get worse than ever.

Michael only stares at the TV screen with mouth apart as he set down the cigarette down into the ash tray.

“Dad is New England far from here?” ask Airin as she turns around looking at Michael, who is sitting on the couch only blinking at the TV.

“Huh? Oh, um…Yes it is very far. Unless you use airplanes, but still it took 7 or 12 hours to get here though.” replies Michael nodding as he look at his daughter smiling.

“Really dad?” ask Airin again blinking.

“Yes, didn’t you learn Geography at school? You should have known that, you know.” says Michael raising his eyebrow straight to his daughter again.

“Eh…Eheheh, yes of course I’ve learn it~!” replies Airin giggling and turns back to the TV screen.

Airin yawns lazily as she looks up at the clock, that shows 9:00 pm sharp as the second hand ticks away. She sighs softly under her breath as she stands up from her seat and climb upstairs, walking to her bedroom as she opens the creaking door and closes it behind.

She then jumps to the bed as she pat her pillow and tucks herself in, closing her sleepy eyes finally that somehow satisfy her needs for the night.

“Hey, where Rin?” ask Zack looking around him for a moment.

“I think she went to bed, you know her. She now sleeps really early.” replies Zurl usually as he lies back on the couch, resting his head on a big soft pillow while trying to watch the TV.

“Never see that coming…” says Zack raising his eyebrow as he checks on his cell phone.

Michael then changes the channel as he presses the buttons on the remote.

“Ha! Look, they’re going to show a good and funny movie! Heh, to bad Rin will going to miss this movie.” laughs Zurl as he waits for the movie to start.

“I wouldn’t be sure of that, Zu.” says Zack raising his eyebrow as he point up to the stairs smirking.

Hearing a creaking noise from upstairs, they both know that someone or something is opening a door.

Running down the stairs, Airin then again sit back on her spot as she hugs her favorite toy while her hair is a bit of a mess up.

“Didn’t I tell you?” says Zack laughing as he pat Airin’s head gently and let her head lay rest on his lap.

Airin snuggles her head on her brother’s lap as she lazily blinks, trying to watch the movie.

“Hnnn…W…What kind of movie…Are we watching…?” she murmurs quietly under her breath as Zack looks down to her.

“Bruce Almighty, it’s a funny movie.” Zack replies with a chuckle as he gently puts his hand onto Airin’s head.

“Oh…That’s my favorite movie of them all!” says Airin again as she wakes up from her position that make Zack almost startle from her sudden action.

Zack rest his hand on his lap as he chuckles seeing Airin smiling to him.

“Look, the movie is about to start~!” yells Airin as she giggles and sit straight, lying against her brother’s shoulder as her brother shakes his head and smiles.

Harry, Lydia and Angela walk in from the kitchen as they sit on the available seats on the comfortable couch.

“Oh wow, you change your TV to a bigger set than before. Nice, how much did you bought it?” ask Harry as he looks at Michael with his glasses on.

“Well, actually I didn’t buy this. My son, Zurl did. Say, how much does it cost again Zu?” says Michael looking to his son as Zurl turns his head over to his father.

“I think…About ten thousand like that?” replies Zurl laughing as he turns his head back to the TV screen.

“Ho…That’s a bit expensive.” says Harry nodding as he sips his drink from his mug while holding it.

Michael only smiles and continues to watch the movie as it starts.
